The 2007 “VH1 Hip Hop Honors�

NEW YORK, NY July 25, 2007 — Today VH1 launches “THE SCORE,â€? an online search to find the best undiscovered hip hop producer in the country. VH1 will give one lucky producer the opportunity to heat up VH1’s fourth annual hip hop celebration by awarding him or her with the opportunity to create and produce the official score of the annual, televised event. The winning score will be used during the broadcast of “VH1 Hip Hop Honorsâ€? on October 8 at 10PM*.

Through August 20, contestants can post their 60-second beats for consideration at http://hiphop.vh1.com. See site for official rules and guidelines. Three finalists will be selected by a panel of music industry judges. Viewers will then decide through online voting who has what it takes to create and produce this year’s official score to “VH1 Hip Hop Honors.â€? The winner will receive show credit, the opportunity to be mentored by Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson from The Roots during a session where the winning score will be professionally produced and a trip to NYC to attend the taping of the fourth annual “VH1 Hip Hop Honorsâ€? celebration in New York in October.

Additionally, in early September, VH1.com will launch a dedicated “VH1 Hip Hop Honors� web site with honoree profiles, exclusive online content and more.

Hosted by Tracy Morgan, this year’s “VH1 Hip Hop Honors,� will pay tribute to Snoop Dogg, WHODINI, Missy Elliott, Wild Style’s 25th Anniversary and Teddy Riley and Andre Harrell for New Jack Swing. The VH1-created awards special honors hip hop’s pioneers and luminaries who have transformed this musical genre into a cultural phenomenon. The music and influence of each of the honorees will be recognized through performances by classic artists in collaboration with today’s hottest new talent.

“LATE NIGHT SPECIAL,” the smash second album from Blue Star Entertainment International/Atlantic recording group Pretty Ricky, has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales exceeding 500,000.  The album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” charts upon its release earlier this year, features the blockbuster hit singles “On The Hotline” and “Push It Baby.”

“Love Like Honey,” the third single from “LATE NIGHT SPECIAL,” is set to impact at multi-format radio outlets nationwide, kicking off in late August.  In addition, MTV.com recently posted an on-set report from the companion video’s production -http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1564242/20070706/index.jhtml.  The “Love Like Honey” video is slated to make its eagerly anticipated debut August 8th on BET’s “Access Granted.”

“Love Like Honey” follows Pretty Ricky’s two previous smash singles, “On The Hotline” and “Push It Baby.”  The former was a top 15 crossover hit on Billboard’s “Hot 100,”while also reaching #2 on both Urban and Rhythmic airplay charts. 

              Written and produced almost entirely by Pretty Ricky and the exclusive production team Music Royale Productions, “LATE NIGHT SPECIAL” follows the group’s 2005 blockbuster debut album, “BLUESTARS.”

So Buju finally gave in….hmm not saying it is wrong of him, but lets be real folks if you listen to the lyrics they don’t exactly sound “gay friendly”. This time around the singer took a different approach to making her record. Instead of the usual RnB/Soul/funk influences she contracted :inda Perry. Linda Perry more famously known for her production work on Pink’s albums (which I Love…). She was also in a band called 4 Non Blondes…I know y’all know…..For thos of you who happened to catch Alicia’s set on Live Earth know that this album is definately in a different direction then we’re used to from Miss Keys…. But so far I’m lovin’

Gay-rights activist Peter Tatchell and his Stop Murder Music campaign have launched the Reggae Compassionate Act, which states they “respect and uphold the rights of all individuals to live without violence due to their religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or gender.

I guess that’s one step in a directiion huh….but lets be real here this is not going to change anything overnight. Beenie and Sizzla though I love dem had to do this because most of their overseas show kept getting cancelled. Elephant Man, TOK, Bounty Killa, Vybz Kartel, and Buju Banton didn’t sign the act, and I don’t expect that to happen anytime soon either….

Lawyers for actor Wesley Snipes, currently charged with federal tax evasion, have filed a motion to dismiss the case on grounds that he is being selectively targeted because he is black.In the June 4 motion, Snipes’ attorneys claim prosecutors filed additional tax evasion charges against him and not against two other defendants because they are “Caucasian, while Mr. Snipes is African-American,” reports the Associated Press.

The Oct. 17 indictment charges Snipes with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 for income taxes already paid. The “Blade� actor was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004.

According to the indictment, his taxes were prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. Snipes’ team, meanwhile, claims he is a victim of “unscrupulous tax advice.” SOURCE

As police continue to investigate Akon’s fan-throwing incident during a concert Sunday in Fishkill, New York, a lawyer for the Senegalese singer released a statement Wednesday disputing that his client committed a crime. “Given the information that we have reviewed to date, it does not appear to us that Akon was involved in any criminal conduct whatsoever,” says his attorney Benjamin Brafman in the statement. “We are prepared to fully cooperate with any law enforcement agency that may be investigating this incident. We are confident that after a thorough investigation it will be apparent that no criminal prosecution of Akon is warranted.

Timbaland had to spend an hour in a German jail early yesterday morning in connection with a bar brawl that left one man hospitalized.The artist, born Timothy Mosley, allegedly got into a heated discussion with an unidentified man in the bar of the Intercontinental Hotel in Cologne at 11.30 p.m. Sources say the drama began when Timbaland began flirting with the man’s girlfriend.A heated argument was sparked, which reportedly resulted in the man using a racial slur. The situation escalated and the two took their dispute outside where an all-out brawl erupted, according to Cologne police spokesperson Juergen Goebel.Timbaland’s entourage reportedly jumped into the fracas and sent the 29-year-old Croatian man to the hospital with multiple bruises and injuries to his rib cage.According to Goebel, Timbaland was questioned and held in custody for approximately one hour before being released.
