Rihanna - Umbrella featuring Jay-z

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

So I said before that I didn’t like this track, but dammit it has grown on me….. The video looks nice but then most of rihannas video’s do (yes, that is a compliment). I love the fact that is has really clear shots and not so much the industry standard soft lense shots. The water would have looker more realistic if it had been less grey….the grey sorta makes it look real CGI…..

Now for the Silver paint sequence let me just say DAMN!!!! This is definately the best video this year from concept to execution. I don’t really want to compare to Beyaki but I have to say this. B has been blabbin her mouth off about how she tried to be original with her videos but Umbrella is so killin B’s swagger….

It’s been a hard week or so for Beyaki and I think it’s about to get harder……

Update- So I’ll just go ahead and take my words back then….

Russell Simmons and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) issued a statement today (April 23) urging the recording industry and media outlets to censor misogynistic lyrics and racist terms from future recordings.

After Don Imus’ recent firing for using disparaging remarks about the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team, hip-hop critics and activists in the black community have challenged the record industry and rappers to tone down denigrating lyrics.

“We recommend that the recording and broadcast industries voluntarily remove/bleep/delete the misogynistic words ‘bitch’ and ‘ho’ and the racially offensive word ‘nigger,’” Simmons said via the statement. “These three words should be considered with the same objections to obscenity as ‘extreme curse words.’”

Simmons and the HSAN also called for the formation of a Coalition on Broadcast Standards that would consist of leading executives from music, radio and television.

“The Coalition would recommend guidelines for lyrical and visual standards within the industries,” the statement continued. “We also recommend that the recording industry establish artist mentoring programs and forums to stimulate effective dialogue between artists, hip-hop fans, industry leaders and others to promote better understanding and positive change.”

So yeah I guess I should take my previous rantings back. Then again, lemme first see what will ACTUALLY be done. It’s very easy to say something has to be done, but what is it exactly that Mr Russel Simmons will be doing to aid this cause?

hmmm now if only something could be done about that ignorant foolishness known as …..Cam’ron

Oprah’s Panel Discussion, What Do You Think?

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Everybody should see this. I was just having a convo about why Orpah hasn’t retired as yet. Orpah has always said that she didn’t want to retire and give up the Huuuuuuuuge platform which is The Oprah Show…..and I’m so grateful that she hasn’t yet retired. There is no other platform that could of hosted this panel and be viewed by the demographic that it really should be seen by….The mothers!!! I really do believe mothers, let me refrase, parents are responsible for the way children are brought up. No child ever popped out and started calling people bitches and hoe’s, it takes at least 2 years for the parents influence to take effect…. Being poor, uneducated, or from a lower social “class” is no, and has never been, an excuse. We can, and I do, blaim the industry. I think that is giving the industry too much credit. They are not responsible for the way we present ourselves. They might have an influence but it is our responsibility to give the right example. I’m dissapointed (sp?) that Common took the stance that he did, and I was never really fond of Russel Simmons (there is something with than man that just irks me), but then again they have a bottom line to defend. I have this feeling that the 4 of them just came on the show to calm things down and I don’t think they have any geuine plans to do anything about the way women and people in general are portrayed in the Hip-Hop community. They might pledge a whole bunch but will they actually deliver? Nopes, I don’t think so. If they wanted to change anything they could of done it right there on the show, and they should of. The four of them have enough ties and influences with and in the Hip Hop and music scene that they should of just said, We Will!!! We will change!!! We are part of the problem but it stops today!! Instead they just sat there turning, twisting, and circling around the issue. For the “clowns” on stage, I have the following. It doesn’t matter that you have a daughter or that your partaking in hip hop summit, because on the side your condoning the nonsense…Whatch these clips and tell me what you think, and what your stance is on the issue…

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Lil’ L.O.V.E. (Ft. Mariah Carey & Bow Wow)

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

I had the snippet of this track for a while now but didn’t wanna post it till I got the full version. I love this track right here. It is definately not the best track anyone on it has ever released (although I haven’t heard much better from Bow Wow), but it is a lot better that a lot of songs out there…..Jermaine is on the track as well, not doing much but still…It’s a typical JD beat which i’m not hating on but it’s getting old… I know he can do better…. Talking about Jd, wasn’t there supposed to be a MC n Janet collab underway? I never really thought that was the brightest idea…Although i’m a stan of both off them…Mimi’s pipes blow janet straight outta the water and janet’s voice is real delicate and soft…. It wouldn’t have done either one any justice…That is not to say that I wouldn’t cop it if it ever came out…..

Jackson 5 fighting to stay relevant!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Three of pop star Michael Jackson’s older siblings - brothers Tito and Jermaine and sister LaToya - have teamed up with US television’s CBS network for an American Idol-style TV contest to find the next big family singing act.

CBS has made an eight-episode commitment to the show, which will be called Pop Dynasty and feature the three Jacksons as celebrity judges in a talent-competition format similar to the Fox network’s smash hit, a CBS spokesman said on Wednesday.

The two best-known members of the Jackson brood, Michael and younger sister Janet, are not involved in the project as of now, the spokesman added.

No air date for the show has been set, and details of the format are being worked out, the network said.

As first reported by Daily Variety, the new show is expected to include standard performance segments while exploring the personal dynamics of the competing families and how they interact as a group.

LaToya Jackson, 50, appeared earlier this year on the CBS reality show Armed & Famous, in which a group of celebrities trained to become police officers in Muncie, Indiana.

She sang background vocals for the Jackson 5 before going solo in 1979. Brothers Tito, 53, and Jermaine, 52, were part of the original Jackson 5 lineup with Michael, now 48.

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I still got traumas from that video and yes there were multiple…..I thought we we were done wid the whole re-living(sp?) the boyhood type videos…You kno i’m right too, this is NOT the way to get your grown man on…I don’t know bout yall but I aint bout to have anybody run up pon me with a mask and a wig on….and what’s up with that choreography? Not even Fatima comes up with that type of nonsense…I was waiting on the “Bye Bye Bye” move…maybe they left that for the next video…I don’t even wanna know what Sean Paul is supposed to be doin on the track….seems like everytime he collaborates with a US artist he checks his skills at the door…..

Rihanna featuring Ne-yo - Hate That I Love You

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Rihanna

Riri’s album is coming quick peoples! Didn’t we like just last week here there was gonna be another album? I can’t help but like this song….I’m trying to fight it though… Ne-Yo hasn’t done much for me for a good while now. I didn’t like the Umbrella-ella-ella-ella-ella track of rihanna at first either. Joe “baby daddy” Camel changed my mind on that track… The genius of his proverbs…thats meant to be sarcasm for the dense ones out there…

No clouds in my storms.
Let it rain, I had this glame in a fame, coming down to the Dow Jones.
When the clouds come we gone
We roc-a-fella, we fly higher than weather and G 5’s are better.
You know me, an anticipation, for precipitation, back chicks in the rainy day.
Jayy.
Rain man is back, with little miss sunshine, Rihanna where you at?
UMBRELLA - Jay-z

Anyways, I do as I said before like this track more and more….but then again I digged the Spice Girls(yeah I said it…won’t u?) so my judgement can be questionable….I have to say though that i’m tired of the same kicks and snares Ne-Yo be using, actually I’m tyaaaad of the whole rhytm…… So yeah listen to the track and lemme know what yall think…
